With the Maui Jim trunk show being done as Ernie Banks said "Let's play Two" Coming up we will have the next Trunk Show on October 8th featuring the incredibly lightweight and durable line of eyewear from OVVO Optics. They have both sun wear and eyewear. The hours will be from 5-7:30 PM (later depending on people). There will be a 20% discount issued to any orders placed during the show. Also there will be food and beverages from Winnetka's own Avli Restaurant. There will also be a raffle for a free OVVO eyeglass or sunglass. Here is a peek at the extensive production process of the eyeglasses. I can personally attest that these are one of the more amazing eyeglasses made as three pair have been driven over by a car and were still able to be straightened (fortunately nobody was wearing them at the time). Look Sharp

Oakley is reaching way back to their roots with a very limited run they've dubbed the Heritage Collection.  Essentially it's a rerelease of three of their original models to commemorate Oakley's 30th birthday.  Unlike other Oakley limited editions, these were only distributed to 250 stores across the country, and we are lucky to be among those chosen.  

Check out the Razorblade in it's three awesome iterations!

Just in time for the holidays

December has been a busy month here at the shop.  We've been focusing a lot on which brands we carry, and the displays out front have been restocked with some great new frames.  One brand that I'm most excited about is Persol.  They're a classic brand with iconic designs and a rich history in the eyewear world.  Come by and see these and other frames, maybe they're just the gift you've been looking for.

So that's how they do it...

  Here's a little peek into what I do on a daily basis.  It's just a short time-lapse video showing how a lens is ground from a blank into it's final shape.  In this case, this lens goes into a string mount frame, which is why you'll see that center channel cut.  

For the record...

And by record, I'm talking about vinyl.  You know, those large black discs covered with grooves?  I'm sure you probably have some of them lying around collecting dust.  The guys over at Vinylize found themselves in that same situation and decided to turn those unused records into beautifully handcrafted eyeglass frames.  Each frame also comes with a case made from an old 45.

Pictured here is the Pege frame from Vinylize, which is based in Hungary.  We're considering carrying more of the line, and would love to know what you think.

More Justins, Just In

The blue/grey Justin sunglasses from Rayban were so cool, we went ahead and picked up some more.  Check them out in green and purple, both in the same opaque rubberized plastic finish.  

Bob Burnquist - Eco awesomeness

Check out this new collaboration between Oakley and pro skateboarder Bob Burnquist.  Officially called the Bob Burnquist Signature Series Recycled Fuel Cell, it's the fifth word and the philosophy behind it that make this frame worth talking about.  With a frame made from excess material that normally goes to waste and accents made of renewable bamboo, this Fuel Cell allows you to look great and show respect to the planet at the same time.  And if you don't know who Bob Burnquist is, check out his short film, Dreamland.

EDA Eyewear: Color, color, and more color

If you were one of those kids that always wanted that big box of Crayola crayons, then you may want to pay attention to EDA Eyewear.  They're based in Oregon and have some very exciting styles in the works, including frames made from wood and animal horn.  For now, check out some of their plastic frames.

My new favorite Rayban

It's called the Justin, and in this particular color, it looks nothing short of awesome.  The overall shape borrows heavily from the Wayfarer, though slightly larger and with more angular lines.  The rubberized material has a translucent finish, allowing for that glow that you see in the pictures.  If you're looking for something a little different, this very well may be it.

Thinner, lighter, better

As far as iconic sunglasses go, few styles have had the sort of cultural impact as Rayban's Wayfarer.  We've seen many updates and variations of the original shape through the years, the newest of which is Liteforce Wayfarer Tech.  As Rayban puts it, the new high-tech plastic "provides superior lightness, durability, flexibility, and comfort," and after wearing them around the office for a bit, I have to say that  they really are pretty awesome.  Check them out below in blue and grey.
